North Coast Section Basketball Championships

One year ago today, the North Coast Section held the NCS Division 3 Basketball Championships at Saint Mary’s College of California. Both the boys’ and girls’ titles were decided in the final moments.

The Bishop O’Dowd Dragons girls defeated Campolinda High School last year in overtime.  Bishop O’Dowd was heavily favored. The underdog Campolindo team was crushed when they lost. Even now I feel for them when I see the photos.

Many of the Campolindo players and fans will remember the heartbreak for the rest of their lives.

The 2011 NCS Division 3 Boys’ Championships created a different challenge since I taught at San Marin High School last year. Fortunately, the boys team won the NCS title, so I could document the celebration after the last shot was missed. Some previously unpublished photos are included in the 2011 NCS Division 3 Championship gallery. There are a few old favorites too.

The 2012 NCS Division 3 finals were not close. In 2012, the Bishop O’Dowd girls team won easily. In 2011, the Bishop O’Dowd boys were expected to win NCS easily. They had been the number one seed, but lost in an earlier round to San Marin. In 2012, the Bishop O’Dowd boys also won the section title.
