National Walk for Epilepsy VIP Reception

On Friday March 30, the Epilepsy Foundation of America held the 2012 National Walk for Epilepsy VIP Reception. Eisai sponsored the event. It was held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts the evening before the National Walk for Epilepsy.  I embedded a 39 picture photo gallery below the initial photos.

At the event, EFA honored Howard Koh and his part at creating the Institute of Medicine Report on the Spectrum of Epilepsy. According to Tony Coelho, the IOM would not have released the report if not for Dr. Koh.

Several other prominent epilepsy advocates attended the event, including Susan Axelrod and Carmita Vaughan from CURE Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy. (I saw Carmita at the walk the next morning also.) Many others attended. If you can identify them,  would you please use the comment section and add names and affiliations if relevant? I will update the blog post periodically and add names and links to sites.

Below is my event photo gallery. Since I returned home on April 3rd, I reformatted the gallery so it was more obvious that other photos were included. While I know many of the people at the event, I do not want to take credit for the work that others have done to organize events and maintain organizations. If you see people in the photos, please acknowledge them.

The photo gallery might not be obvious to everyone so I am including the link below. http://bryanfarley.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/2012-Epilepsy-Foundation-of-America-VIP-Reception/G0000br5BoKf_Dt8/I0000CzGeEw.MJCY

Wonderful pictures of a fabulous event. I was there at Tony COhelo’s request. The walk committee did such a wonderful task creating an exciting walk this year! Thanks for sharing! I saw you at the walk interviewing a mother and sister who last someone to SUDEP I believe. You know we last our SOn as well.

      Ginny,

You are right. I met and photographed Annette’s family. You can see the photos in the next post. I have not searched yet, but I might have photos of Annette from last year’s walk.

Thank you for commenting and attending. (Thanks for the compliments too.) I am touched to see families and friends supporting each other after one of us has died. I hope EFA creates a stronger support group for parents who have lost children to death. The support group would benefit families left behind, but also those of us with epilepsy who are still alive. I want to know that my family would have a support group if something happened to me.

If you search through my current site as well as my old site, you will see my work with mothers of angels. As a parent myself, I know that your loss is profound, and yet, I realize I do not really know your loss.

Thank you again, and please stay in touch.

      Bryan

Thanks Tom for finding me. I believe you live close to DC. Is that correct? The walk is amazing, with many great events.
